Teenage Kix Local Music Project Nurtures New Talent

Rising local musical talent, Ffion Davies (18) from Much Wenlock in Shropshire has just completed a stint in the studio, after being picked at a performance project by the Hole in the Wall Music Festival.

Coming from a musical family, especially on her mother's side, Ffion could "sing before she could talk", and this weekend recorded three self-penned tracks, For The Good, Hiraeth and Tell My Heart That, available to hear at https://soundcloud.com/ffion-davies.

When she isn't singing, playing the guitar, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone or piano, Ffion is an assistant at her old school, William Brookes in Much Wenlock, and was recommended for the scheme by her music teacher at the time, Penny Jaeger.

When asked about the Teenage Kix project Ffion said "It was a great opportunity to get in front of a crowd and perform, and to meet fellow musicians."
She is hoping to continue her performing career by attending RADA, the Royal Welsh or Guildford College.

Teenage Kix was the brainchild of the local Hole in the Wall Music Festival organiser, Chris Woodward: "As soon as I heard her sing, it set the stage for an awesome weekend of music. Ffion's talent was outstanding and we are proud to have supported her. She quite simply rocked."

The project continues at the mid-summer music fest at Hopton Court in Shropshire, opening the Saturday music events over the weekend of 18th to 20th July 2014.

The Project Aims to:

To give young people in rural South Shropshire and the surrounding locality a unique opportunity to experience the programming, administration, marketing and technical side of the arts and to give an opportunity to for them develop skills that could lead them into future careers. This project casts a wide net in that it will provide a platform for young people to show what ever ability they may have and wish to build on. This could be as young performers and other forms of performance, production technical or otherwise, artwork and design, marketing etc.

The aim is to involve youngsters in all aspects of making an event happen and to create genuine youth ownership of the youth programme of the existing “Teenage Kix at the Wall” held during the annual Hole in the Wall Festival in mid-July.

The Hole in the Wall Festival will be providing the venue and infrastructure for the project as in-kind support. The work planned by the young programmers will be incorporated into the main programme of the festival and more information regarding performers will be added to this web page when the line-up has been decided.  Please give your support to these youngsters at this FREE event and let them know what a real audience feels like! No tickets are required for this event, just turn up and enjoy............

We aim to build and develop the success of this project each year.

We were happy to send Ffion Davies to Hatch Studio in Lindridge near Tenbury Wells as part of our Youth Project.  We are grateful to Ben Salmon and engineer Hugh in giving her experience on her day in Hatch Studio recording some of her music https://soundcloud.com/ffion-davies.
